I was told about someone who wasn't greeting their friends. Eventually, one of their friends gathered the courage to speak up, because they had previously had some friction. They said, if you're ignoring me because you're angry with me, I don't mind, but please don't ignore my other friends too.

They were wrong. The one who had been silent said they weren't angry—they were just dealing with a lot of problems.

There is someone who is being silent.

What interpretation might be valid?

Many. Perhaps they are sad. Perhaps they are thinking about debt. Perhaps they are physically exhausted. Perhaps they were just scolded by their boss. Perhaps they are sleepy. And there are many other possibilities.

And all of these are still just possibilities.

We can never fully understand someone else. In fact, we often struggle to understand even ourselves.

Therefore, if we expect others to understand us "completely," without telling them what we want from them, it's time to wake up.

We are asleep.
